Choose the right anode for your water
Volvo Penta now recommends Aluminum for salt and brackish water (gradually replacing zinc). Use Magnesium in fresh water. Some older drives still use zinc — those rows are marked with a Zinc badge.

Anode care — before launching
If an anode has been exposed to air for a long time, a passivating film may prevent it from working properly. Reactivate by lightly grinding with emery paper. Never use sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel tools — they damage the galvanic protection. Anode lifespan depends on water flow, salinity, temperature, pollution and stray current.
